Gerd F. Glang is a retired rear admiral (lower half) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Commissioned Officer Corps.  In his last NOAA assignment, he served as the Director, Office of Coast Survey, where he was responsible for the Nation’s portfolio of nautical charts and navigation services and represented NOAA as the National Hydrographer to the International Hydrographic Office (IHO).  He also served as the NOAA Member on the Mississippi River Commission during this period.

A 1984 graduate of SUNY Maritime College, Admiral Glang was first commissioned in the U.S. Air Force, then commissioned in the NOAA Corps.  He retired in 2016 after 32 years of active duty.  During his NOAA career, Admiral Glang completed numerous land assignments and four sea assignments, including as Commanding Officer, NOAA Ship Whiting and Commanding Officer, NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown.  He completed the Ocean Mapping certificate program at the University of New Hampshire (2004). 

Following retirement from active duty, Admiral Glang was President of IIC Technologies North America (2017 – 2019). He then served as General Manager for HYPACK (a Xylem brand), a global leader in hydrographic software (2019 – 2025).  Admiral Glang founded Maritime Geospatial LLC in 2025 and currently serves as a principal consultant specializing in hydrography and ocean mapping.
